Little League Baseball® Age Determination Date to Move to August 31 for the 2018 Season

Updated Thursday September 10, 2015 by West Bend Little League.

The West Bend Little League received the following e-mail update from Little League International regarding League Age Determination.  We will let parents know how this change may affect their children prior to Open Registration for the 2016 Little League season.

Dear League President,

At the Little League International Congress in April 2014, Little League District Administrators (D.A.s) voted to change the Age Determination Date for Baseball from April 30 to December 31. Changes to Little League's rules and regulation need a two-thirds (66.7 percent) majority vote in order to be sent to the Little League International Board of Directors for approval. As a result of that vote in April 2014, 72 percent of D.A.s agreed with the measure to change the Baseball Age Determination Date to December 31 beginning with the 2018 season, which the Board of Directors then approved.

With input from volunteers, parents, and coaches, in June, the Little League International Board of Directors required D.A.s to re-vote on an amendment to the Age Determination Date, changing it from December 31 to August 31. The results of the vote on amending the Age Determination Date to August 31 were that 341 (89 percent) were in agreement with that proposal; 43 (11 percent) were not in agreement. Therefore, this amendment was sent to the Little League International Board of Directors for discussion and approval.

On Friday, August 28, the Little League International Board of Directors unanimously approved the amendment, changing the age date to August 31. Making the date August 31, the same that many schools in many states use for student registration, allows Little Leaguers to play with their classmates, and ensures that no child will exceed the maximum age limit within any division of Little League Baseball during the playing season. Click here for more details on the age change and the 2016 Little League Age Chart for Baseball.

Thank You,
